Free / No Match

No pattern alignment is required between adjacent strips. This usually creates the least waste because each strip can be cut based mainly on the wall height and trimming allowance.

Straight Match

The pattern lines up at the same height on each adjacent strip. The calculator uses the pattern repeat to determine the required cut length so that complete repeats are available for alignment.

Drop / Offset Match

The pattern on the next strip is offset rather than aligned at the same height. Enter both the pattern repeat and pattern offset shown in the wallpaper manufacturer's specifications.

How Much Extra Wallpaper Should I Buy?

This calculator estimates the number of rolls required using your wall dimensions, wallpaper roll size, trimming allowance, and pattern match.

It does not automatically add a fixed extra percentage to the final result. Pattern matching, trimming, and unused roll length already create some material waste, so adding a blanket percentage can sometimes overestimate what you need.

For projects with difficult corners, uneven walls, complex patterns, or a higher risk of installation mistakes, consider buying additional material or following the wallpaper manufacturer's recommendation.

What About Doors and Windows?

In this example, the wall requires 8 strips. Each strip is approximately 2.56 metres long, and 3 complete strips fit on each roll, giving an estimated requirement of 3 rolls.
